Volunteer: Little Free Library Stocker

Little Free Libraries (LFL) are all over Charlotte - but many are not stocked well enough.  People tend to take more than they give - especially children.  That is totally fine by us since The Library is in the literacy business.  This is where you may be able to help us out!

The Library is looking for independent, reliable volunteers who take the initiative to do the right thing.  Stocking the LFL is not hard but it is not easy.  It means making it a part of your monthly routine.  Taking a before and after picture to showcase your work.  Taking pride in the materials you are helping to provide to the community.

Materials are provided after a brief background check and training session.  After that you are off and running, placing materials in the LFL in your surrounding area.  You can use the app to find the LFL or you can discover them out in the wild.  Not every LFLF is on the app.

LFL volunteers are expected to straighten out the existing materials, remove damaged materials, and put in newer materials.  Before and after phots are required.  A little story if you encoutner anyone or have a unusual experience.

This is a fun opportunity to do with a family member or friend!

Volunteer: Community Book Sale Team Member

Community book sale team members are the backbone of every large book sale.  The sales are held primarily on Saturdays, with a few exceptions.  The tasks are simple but require a specific type of volunteer.  If you are organized, love details, are outgoing, a heavy reader of any genre, like people, and have high energy - then this is the volunteer opportunity for you!  Ok - even if you are not super high energy - this still could be the best fit for you!

After a background check and training session you will be given the book sale schedule.  Book sales occur all over Mecklenburg County - so you did get to select which ones work in your schedule.  .  Volunteers can sign up for the entire sale or for a shift.  A full sale day is 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. shifts are 2 to 3 hours long and are agreed upon with the logistics manager.

Community book sales team members start at 8 a.m. and prepare the book carts with materials.  No heavy lifting, justtake  books out of a bin and onto a cart.  Signs will need to be posted and yard signs will need to be put in place.  Volunteers will rotate from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on a service table where customer purchases are tallied up for final payment.  Volunteers fluff the shelves, restock the carts, and answer questions. At 1 p.m. volunteers clear the carts of unsold materials and place them back in the bins.
