Project Description:
As a Homework Help volunteer, you’ll support K-5 students in improving reading skills and completing homework assignments. As a Reading Buddies volunteer, you’ll encourage K-5 students as they read aloud within a thirty-minute timeslot.
Responsibilities:
Volunteers provide support and encouragement to help the child view reading as a positive experience. You are not a tutor or a teacher, but a buddy who provides a relaxed and supportive time for reading practice.
Qualifications:
Any prior experience tutoring, mentoring, or working with children can be beneficial
Bilingual abilities are a plus, especially if the library serves a diverse population
Good communication is vital. volunteers must explain concepts clearly and patiently, adapting their approach to different learning styles
Training:
On-the-job training provided. You are required to participate in a Student Success Center Training session prior to your first appointment (self-paced virtual training).
