Homework Helper | Fall 2026 | Thu | 5:30-6:30 PM | Mint Hill

Project Description:   As a Homework Help volunteer, you’ll assist students with completing homework assignments to reinforce essential reading and math skills, encourage good study habits in a positive environment, and connect students with Library resources that can support their learning. The role is encouragement and guidance, NOT tutoring.   

Responsibilities:  While the Library hopes to see students visiting for support weekly, there may be days when students do not visit. Upon arrival, 1-5th grade students are invited to put their name on a list, to be called upon by a trained Library volunteer to get support with one of these three options:  Assignment Completion   Practice Skills   Connect to Tutor.com   

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum 18 years of age with basic academic skills 
  • Patient, tolerant, friendly, and caring manner 
  • Previous education experience preferred; previous experience with children a plus 
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in a tactful, courteous, and pleasant manner with library staff, children, and parents 
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must, with ability to commit to a regular weekly schedule  
  • Ability to define and explain instructions to children  
  • Work quietly and independently  Neat appearance    

Training:  All volunteers are required to participate in a Homework Help Training session prior to their first shift (self-paced virtual training). Volunteers will be trained on assignment completion, practice skills, and how to connect students to Tutor.com.

Days and Hours: 1 hour 5:30-6:30pm; Fall 2026 Semester runs September 14th -December 19th.
