Community book sale team members are the backbone of every large book sale. The sales are held primarily on Saturdays, with a few exceptions. The tasks are simple but require a specific type of volunteer. If you are organized, love details, are outgoing, a heavy reader of any genre, like people, and have high energy - then this is the volunteer opportunity for you! Ok - even if you are not super high energy - this still could be the best fit for you!
After a background check and training session you will be given the book sale schedule. Book sales occur all over Mecklenburg County - so you did get to select which ones work in your schedule. . Volunteers can sign up for the entire sale or for a shift. A full sale day is 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. shifts are 2 to 3 hours long and are agreed upon with the logistics manager.
Community book sales team members start at 8 a.m. and prepare the book carts with materials. No heavy lifting, justtake books out of a bin and onto a cart. Signs will need to be posted and yard signs will need to be put in place. Volunteers will rotate from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on a service table where customer purchases are tallied up for final payment. Volunteers fluff the shelves, restock the carts, and answer questions. At 1 p.m. volunteers clear the carts of unsold materials and place them back in the bins.
